Gunther Stahl studied Pharmacy at the Universität in Bonn, Germany. After his registration as a pharmacist and a brief tour through pharmacies in Germany he signed on in Prof. Hoeltjes research group at Heinrich-Heine Universität Düsseldorf, Germany.
During his Ph.D. he focused on Molecular Dynamics of Protein-ligand complexes with explicit waters. After finishing his Ph.D. he joined Tripos in 2002 as an Application Scientist in Germany, entering the expert molecular modeling environment which includes Ligand- and Structure-based Drug Design, Cheminformatics, Library Design and more. After three years he transferred to the US and continues to work for Tripos here. Today he works out of his home office in Pennsylvania with customers in the SouthEast of the United States.

Best Practice: Avoiding Bias in Virtual Screening
Gunther Stahl, Tripos
This talk will cover a discussion of several issues that affect docking studies and introduce bias, including success measures, test set selection, and preparation of ligands and proteins. Included will be discussion of pose prediction and virtual screening tests and analysis, illustrating some of the issues and how to avoid them.
